What’s been inspiring me this week…

I’ve been thinking about inspirational writing quotes this week. When I was a teenager a school friend made a poster with writing quotations and I had it on my wall for years. Whenever I was struggling with my writing I would look at those words and feel a little better. My favourite since then has always been the E.L.Doctorow quote: ‘Good writing is to evoke sensation in the reader, not the fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon.’ For me that line tells us the main thing we need to do as writers. Make our readers forget that they are reading and become so immersed in the writing that they can feel and smell and hear what is happening. It makes it sound so easy as well!
